Good To Go

by admin — last modified Aug 29, 2009 06:42 PM

I think we're now good to go - lowendbox.com have put up a news post about this site which is very nice of them. I think I have corrected all outstanding issues regarding the custom data types in the server database plus any CSS theming issues. In the end, this site's theme is basically the Plone default plus CSS3 roundy corners and justified text - hardly like what I did to www.deepereconomics.org which is major heart surgery by comparison.

I added a fairly lengthy review of OVH's Real Private Server based on my own very detailed benchmarking results. It really is an idea with outstanding potential, but its too ahead of its time. I hope though that this OVH RPS review will help fill a major gap in objective information about OVH's RPS where most criticism tends to be really inflammatory to the point of not being helpful.

I also added a high end VPS from the used-to-be-reputable provider formerly known as VAServ. I personally think that overselling has its place - after all, almost all telecommunications infrastructure is based on overselling - but it is very true that most OpenVZ VPSs don't have their overselling actively managed and that makes the user experience a bit too unpredictable for my liking.

Lastly, I have captchaed the registration form as bots were having fun creating spam accounts.

Anyway, I hope that ye find the site useful. Feel free to leave a comment if you did.

Thanks Niall, this is a useful site! Good reviews in an ill served niche. I hope it gains (more) momentum. I have a question about the pingtime graphs - how are they made?
Happy new year, too!

Thanks for the feedback!

Wasn't the methodology clear in the lead in to http://www.lowenddedi.net/leaderboard-network-quality and more in the methodology page http://www.lowenddedi.net/methodology?

I simply take the ping times and standardise around the Interserver results. The flatter the better!
