Christmas Eve

by admin — last modified Dec 24, 2009 08:08 PM

Been a while since the last update: I added two new entries, one which was good from Joe's Data Center and one which was very poor from EZZI. I don't have any more providers to review in my todo list, so if you know of any please do contact me via the Contact button above.

This site is now getting about a thousand visitors a month, more than half of which are direct links from other sites which is probably as good as it gets for such a niche product review site. As just one quarter of visitors come from search engines, I've improved the SEO a bit so we'll see if it works.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Adjusted Currency Equivalents

by admin — last modified Nov 04, 2009 09:47 PM

There has been a fair bit of change in the international exchange rates since October - the US dollar has slid while the Australian dollar has risen. Hence the rates have been changed: the database now accepts servers costing up US$55 rather than US$50, and AUD$55 rather than AUD$60. This leaves us with an unusual coincidence: the cut off is now the same for the US, Canadian and Australian dollars!

A new entry has been added from CPC Technologies - we have another two to come in the pipeline, hopefully soon.

Sadly, no WHT :(

by admin — last modified Sep 24, 2009 03:04 PM

Added a server from Wholesale Internet which a few people had emailed in - a good offering.

Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to post to WHT due to lack of sufficient posts - apparently I need ten before I can post to the advertising section. So it's probably going to be quite some while before lowenddedi takes off with some traffic :(

Still, for the time being, as far as I know we've got all the sub-US$50 server on the market here. And nowhere else can claim that!

Added Two More Providers

by admin — last modified Sep 01, 2009 07:30 PM

We've been getting around forty visitors a day since lowendbox.com put us on their front page - and Google hasn't indexed us yet, so we're expecting a fair bump after that. We've also seen a fair few people create accounts despite not posting anything which is a little odd - they can't be bots because we captchaed the registration page (and besides, the names and emails look real). This led us to think that maybe something was wrong ...

And indeed there was: our apologies that the email server used by lowenddedi was utterly broken - the contact form and indeed comments system were almost certainly borked because of it. It's working now, and our apologies to visitors.

We're trying to add one low end dedi review per day seeing as there are so many out there even if they're tough to find. We added one of the big European providers Server4You who are a good example of foisting off really crappy ancient hardware on unsuspecting punters, and also a server from BurstNET (also known as Nocster http://www.nocster.net/) which is very good value for money if you do a lot of data transfers.

Site Opened

This is one of those things which I have been meaning to do for ages but never quite got round to. I am hoping to emulate some of the success of lowendbox.com which is so useful for reviewing low end VPSs but for low end dedicated servers. Sure, it's an incredibly niche market, but I personally find it very useful.

We open the site with three of the most reputable providers of low end dedicated servers:

  1. Core Networks
  2. Interserver
  3. OVH

You will almost certainly find a lot of people rubbishing these guys on the web, but then they expect far more for the price than they should. For €35/month you should expect no more than to be happy each and every time you find your server still running. If you want more than that, go pay €250/month like anyone else.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what comments and submissions come in. Welcome to the site!
