Detailed Notes:

When we originally set the parameters for admission to this site, we genuinely thought that we'd have a flood of 2Gb RAM VPSs hitting us. As it turns out, we were most surprised to learn that even if a VPS provider offers anything over 2Gb at all in the first place (most max out at 1Gb RAM), they invariably are charging much more than €35/month for it even if it's OpenVZ. The reason why is simple: it's much harder to oversell when your VPSs are 2Gb of RAM each because you only can fit about four of them onto each machine.

Hence this is only the second VPS after FsckVPS to make it onto our database - and indeed one which was suggested to us by Gotekky CEO Jean-Pierre Abboud. Their servers are based in Montreal, Canada, which may make them more interesting to some people than a US based server due to data privacy issues. Its host hardware is impressive - the Q9550 can muster more memory bandwidth than anything yet in our database - only the next generation i7's can deliver more.

World Connectivity:

Very impressive: almost like being in New York except for reaching the United Kingdom.

Pros:

I said in the FsckVPS review that "If you need more horsepower than a dedi, you probably won't find 2.4Ghz of Core2 goodness cheaper elsewhere". Well, here you have 2.83Ghz of Core2 goodness though it's a good US$10/month more expensive. In fact, apart from the CPU it's almost identical to the FsckVPS entry.

These servers are not based in the US and therefore are not subject to the total disdain for data protection  and privacy that the US treats non-US citizens.

Cons:

As with any VPS, don't run loads which randomly alternate between full load and fully idle as it confuses the automated load balancing systems. Don't run anything which relies on consistent disc read latency.

As with any VPS, if you need lots of disc space then a dedi is far better.

Verdict:

It's a bit more expensive than VAServ's FsckVPS (same price if you avail of the discount afforded by annual payments) but you get better hardware and a non-US (Canadian) server.
