Detailed Notes:

[updated May 2011]

This is the elder sibling to the DigiCube Small and it is also based in France. Much has changed since the last update in December when it was a lowly Atom 330 ...

Firstly, you need to ignore what it says on the default page for the DigiCube Medium and choose the customisation menu at the top right. Now you get some real low end dedis at a great price. We chose the Athlon II X2 for an extra five euro per month plus a 1Gb RAM upgrade for another five euro a month. The 2.8Ghz Athlon II X2 is about the same as an Intel Core 2 Duo P9400 at 2.4Ghz, so we might be onto a new leaderboard entry here!

World Connectivity:

World connectivity is good: much better than OVH, not quite as good as Swiftway.

Pros:

Since we lost the wonderful Swiftway beast a few weeks ago, we are very glad to see an even better product here from DigiCube. You get the 2.8Ghz Athlon II X2 which is about 60% faster than the Intel Pentium E2160 Swiftway had, same RAM, same hard drive, and supposedly "unlimited" network transfer at a fast 100Mbit. And it's €5/month cheaper.

Cons:

The site is exclusively written in French and I would assume therefore so will be customer and technical support. Google Translate is surprisingly effective with French <=> English though, so I wouldn't worry too much.

When a provider says "unlimited network transfer" they very rarely mean it. Most mean by this that it will be NIC speed for the first X Tb/month and drop to 10Mbit or 1Mbit thereafter which obviously is an effective cap. I don't mind if it is specified what this cap is in the small print, but I have searched the T&C's and everywhere else and I can't find it.

Verdict:

There can be no doubt: this is the new best buy on the Leaderboard. Highly recommended.
