This is the little Intel Atom server based in France which has been causing all sorts of excitement on WHT recently, and for good reason. For just €11.99 you get a server with 1Gb of RAM which destroys almost all other competition at the very bottom end. Before my main complaint was that for €15/month you could get a much better server from OVH, but now Digicube have dropped theirs to €12/month well we'll see ...
Note that DigiCube also have an elder sibling server too, the DigiCube Medium which is bigger & better but also costs more.
World Connectivity:
World connectivity is good: much better than OVH, not quite as good as Swiftway.
Pros:
Modern CPU which is more than plenty for most applications, a reasonable amount of RAM and disc space, and supposedly "unlimited" network transfer at a fast 100Mbit.
Cons:
The site is exclusively written in French and I would assume therefore so will be customer and technical support. Google Translate is surprisingly effective with French <=> English though, so I wouldn't worry too much.
When a provider says "unlimited network transfer" they very rarely mean it. Most mean by this that it will be NIC speed for the first X Tb/month and drop to 10Mbit or 1Mbit thereafter which obviously is an effective cap. I don't mind if it is specified what this cap is in the small print, but I have searched the T&C's and everywhere else and I can't find it.
Verdict:
I must admit that I'm more torn on this now than I was before they dropped the price to below the bottom OVH Kimsufi. Tough to call, very tough ...
Still though I'm going to repeat what I said last time: OVH's bottom end Kimsufi has a CPU which is 50% faster than an Atom 220 and it comes with twice as much RAM and four times the hard drive storage for 25% more cost. In this light, I still think the OVH server is a better deal.
